“Can you explain how you implemented Agile in your Projects?” I was recently posed this question in relations to a potential new Project. How do you answer that? Let me hear what you would say in the comments. Read more today and check back the next few days for my take. As per my yesterdays post on the Agile Manifesto, I am a firm believer that Agile is something you live. Not something you implement, as that word implies you can force people to adhere to it. To the person I spoke to, I said something to the effect of that it is about fostering a culture among people, where they feel safe enough to answer you honestly and be outspoken, when it comes to what they need to succeed. I stand by that. But how does one do that in practice? For me, leading by example is the only way. Myself being open is the key. As a leader, fostering a culture, starts with yourself. In fact, I should thank Martins Vecvanags who, years ago, held a seminar where I learned to focus on being a good example of the culture I want to foster. So I have decided to be a protagonist of flat hierarchy. Being agile is all about embracing change. And if you lead people through change, the only way to make the change happen, is to ensure they feel safe in doing the change. The feeling of being safe is perceived individually. How I do that? Check back with me tomorrow, for more.
