How do you make people Agile?

By Søren "Sean" Holmberg - Owner

How do you make people agile?  (Part one of.. eh.. three, I think)
By making them do 10 squats and 15 push ups, every morning. That’ll stretch their muscles. 🤸🏼‍♀️🤸🏼‍♂️🤣
Okay, joke aside. Before reading on, post your favourite methods to help people be more agile in the comments. Let’s help each other!

Agile means dealing with Change in a good way. And for people to change or deal with changes, they need to believe that it will lead to something better.
First step for me is understanding who the individuals in the team are. My weapon of choice is 1:1. A sit down, with no fixed agenda. Just a talk on how people feel, what is up in their life and how they are doing in general. No meeting minutes, no KPIs (we will get to KPIs eventually later in this series, follow me to stay updated), nothing of the sort. Just a talk, to understand them. This is my way of tuning myself in, on how to communicate with them.
Secondly it is about observing. To remember your servant role, will give you the needed space to lean back and observe the team. If you are leaning in, to take control over the discussion, in say a Daily Standup, you are not focusing enough on understanding the dynamics of your team. Say less, listen more. Or as my mum would put it: You have two ears and one mouth for a reason.
I use tools and KPIs too, which I will get back to in posts over the next few days.
